Nicolas Roeg's solo directorial debut, based on the novel by James Vance Marshall, is the story of two British children lost in the Australian desert and rescued by an Aborigine boy. It is also a mystical, lyrical story of three children enjoying life in a free, uncomplicated, unspoiled, primitive world. With Jenny Agutter, Lucien John, David Gumpilil and John Meillon. A complex film, lovely in many ways, but also dealing straightforwardly with the need to kill to eat. Causes the viewer to think, perhaps in unexpected ways, going beyond what is presented in the film. Also rather sad, but worth the sadness for the overall experience of this film.
