Synopsis

Ironically named for the film series Frank Capra produced for the U.S. Defense Department, Eugene Jarecki's probing and often frightening documentary looks at America''s peculiar preponderance for war. Produced in the midst of the disastrous war in Iraq, Jarecki begins with Eisenhower''s 1961 warning about the rise of the "military industrial complex", and illustrates how government, military, and business are locked into a system that necessitates violent conflict. Includes interviews with military personnel, congressmen, scholars, and more. "...forcefully argues that the much abused word freedom cannot paper over the conflicts between capitalism and democracy" (J. Hoberman, Village Eugene Jarecki---USA/Great Britain/Canada/France---2004---98 mins.
