Synopsis

To tell the story of Black Power Movement in the United States during the socially-turbulent late sixties and early seventies, the makers of this documentary didn't look to time-tested footage from American archives. No, it's in the archives of...Sweden? Yes, the amazing footage that comprises Black Power Mixtape is taken from Swedish journalists covering the events, happenings, rallies, and marches in America during the time. And it took Swedish filmmaker Goran Olsson to put it all together and offer a fresh perspective from that faraway vantage point. Filmed more recently, figures like Erykah Badu, Harry Belafonte, Angela Davis, Danny Glover, Talib Kweli, Ahmir-Khalib Thompson, and others share their thoughts about the footage and the progress we have (and haven't) made.
