Synopsis

Four films by Andy Warhol:
Empire: A single shot of the Empire State Building over the course of one day.

Kiss: Kiss is a series of 3 1/2 minute silent films of various people kissing. These short films are strung together to make a longer film. There is man & women kissing, women & women, man & man etc... Kiss is one of Warhol's first films, but can really call the completed work a film, or is it a series of short films.

Blow Job: Andy Warhol directs a single 35-minute shot of a man's face to capture his facial expressions as he receives the sex-ual act depicted in the title.

Andy Warhol -- 1963 - 1964 -- USA -- 127 mins.

This is something you'll want to watch only if you are interested in Andy Warhol or in experimental films in general. Here's what you'll see: "Kiss" is a compilation of several five minute reels of various couples-- you guessed it-- kissing. The forerunner of this idea is the Edison Kinescope "The Kiss" where a man rather salaciously kisses a rather robust, square-jawed lady. In Warhol's version both male and female and male-male couples deep-kiss for as long as the film runs through the camera. Each is photographed at a different angle, in close-up. Each sequence ends in a ethereal fade-to-white. It's about 30 mins. "Mario Banana" features a close-up of a drag queen licking and taking bites from a banana. Two versions are shown, one color and one in B& W. It's about 7 to 10 mins. It's kinda silly. "Blow Job" is a half hour of a young man's face, shot in high contrast reacting to being fellated (off-screen) . It is comprised of several takes. The interest lies in his changing expressions and the play of light and dark. Last is "Empire" 1 hour of a static shot of the Empire State building at night. This one was meant to be wallpaper so it doesn't work as a viewing experience on a TV screen. There is NO soundtrack and no extra features.
